Talented photographers wanted :

moodboard announced they want talented photographers to apply to be a moodboard photographer. The moodboard image library with a twist launched on the 5th July with collections of both quality microstock and premium royalty free images, they are now on the hunt for great talented photographers. “We are targeting “talented photographers” whilst it doesn’t matter if the photographer is a seasoned professional or relative newcomer, we would like to hear from them. Our pricing strategy aims to achieve the best possible return for the talented photographer within this evolved business model” said Kate Stevens, Creative Director at moodboard. moodboard don’t house millions of images…just the right ones. There are two ways in which a photographer can earn money as they offer one off payments for your imagery or will pay royalties on your photography if you fund your own shoot, this gives the photographer flexibility when they submit although they do request that all images are model released. moodboard sell their images at multiple price points, from £8 to £399, and file sizes range from XS to XXL

Photo Calendar to remind them

Photo Book Comments No Photo Comments »

I have just sent a calendar to my eldest son from this web site. If you have a forgetful member of your family who never gets his sisters, brothers or anybody’s birthday or any other event right. Create one of these calendars from this web site.  Not only showed him who we are in pictures, but also put every date that he needs to remember in words on the exact date it happens ( I also put a reminder at the beginning of each month). He now has no excuse for missing anything and it looked great too!!!

Highly recommend the calendars, the service and the software - if I can use it anybody can.

Bushfield Community College in Peterborough, a well known leader in innovation when providing new and different methods of pupil interaction and experiences

They are now getting their pupils to create books showing the events they have participated in using the design and creation of photobooks.

With the free software from reflections of you they are creating individual books from events they have been involved with. These books are created by the pupils from pictures they have taken and by adding their story in words they will create something reflecting not only their experience but teling the story to others. The books will be produced if and when someone, a parent or anyone involved, orders one.

The software is easy to use and costs nothing. The pupils actually publish a book and get all the benefits of building the story. The school only buys a book when they have sold one and as a side benefit it helps the school generate funds.

US Digital Camera / Internet Users Survey

Camera News, Photo News No Photo Comments »

U.S. Internet users favor Canon among digital cameras, according to survey results released Thursday.Ipsos Insight announced that the Tokyo-based company’s products led the way, with Kodak, Sony, and Nikon trailing behind. The results come from a broad technology survey that Ipsos Insight conducted online last spring.

Twenty-four percent of nearly 1,200 Internet respondents chose Canon as the best manufacturer from a list of fifteen brands, and those who chose it tended to be young, college-educated, and earned high annual incomes. Kodak received the most support from older, less-educated consumers, Ipsos Insight reported.

The survey indicates that Kodak retains a “halo-effect” on its brand, despite having lost ground in terms of sales over the past few years.

“Kodak was the top manufacturer for digital cameras in the U.S. in 2005, but has now fallen to third place in terms of market share for 2006,” Leslie Rich, VP of Ipsos Insight’s Media, Entertainment, and Technology practice, said in a statement. “Our study results show that consumer perception of the Kodak brand has been more positive than the brand’s actual market share figures would reflect.”

Strongest ownership of digital cameras occurs among young Internet users, while strongest ownership of home printers occurs for the more mature Internet users, according to Ipsos Insight.

“This suggests that while the younger digital camera owners with children in their household are using their cameras to capture family pictures, the grandparents have printers for the pictures they’re receiving via PC,” Rich said. “Aside from mobile phones, these two products — digital cameras and home printers — are the most common technological devices in households right now. Americans are embracing their love for digital photography and sharing images within their social networks. The online photo storage and sharing industry will benefit from this and continue to grow.”

Book Review - Photoshop CS3: Photographer’s Handbook by Brad Hinkel and Steve Laskevitch

Image Software News No Photo Comments »

photshopimage.jpgWhen someone is first starting out with Photoshop, they can become overwhelmed very quickly with all of the features and tools and options that are available. Photoshop CS3: Photographer’s Handbook was written to alleviate that situation.

The goal of Photoshop CS3: Photographer’s Handbook is four-part. First is to get a solid foundation in Photoshop CS3. Second is to learn a practical workflow for editing images. Third is to teach individual techniques for image editing. And finally it is to teach photographic techniques for image editing.

Photoshop CS3: Photographer’s Handbook has 213 pages and is divided into an introduction and six chapters. This book is for those who want to learn to use the basic tools and image editing techniques from within Photoshop. It is aimed toward the use of Photoshop CS3 and Lightroom 1.0. The introduction helps get you set up and gets you ready to use Photoshop.

Chapter one, “Essentials of Photoshop CS3,” discusses the main elements of Photoshop. This is to set you up for the later work that you will do. There are short exercises that help reinforce your understanding. Here you will work with some of the tools like the Paintbrush, Pen, Layers, Smart Objects, Levels and Curves. You will learn of histograms and what they can do, as well as the various types of files that are available to work with.

Chapter two, “The Image Editing Workflow,” explains what a sample workflow is and why it is important to processing your images. By creating a carefully constructed structure, you will be able to tighten your focus on the larger tasks in each stage of the process. Each stage in the process is examined.

Chapter three, “Printing,” considers the two main choices for how you would want to accomplish this process. First is a basic method that relies on your printer driver to deliver your images. Second is a more professional method that uses profiles to deliver much more accurate output.

Chapter four, “Images for the Web and Devices,” explore the fact that more images are sent somewhere other than the printer. Most of these end up on the web. Here you will learn the all important techniques of getting your images out of Photoshop and on the web or other device.

Chapter five, “Advanced Options,” examines all of the other techniques that need to be introduced in a book on image editing. Here you will work with Blending Layers, Toning, Color, and the Black and White conversion tools. There is also discussion on photographic interpretive effects that apply different looks to an image.

Chapter six, “Adobe Photoshop Lightroom,” finishes up with a discussion of Adobe’s new workflow product Lightroom. Here the authors explain how Lightroom can do many of the same workflow techniques discussed earlier and leave it to you to decide if you need both products. Lightroom can be both a separate product as well as an extension to your Photoshop workflow. You will need to be familiar with Bridge, Photoshop and Camera Raw to work with this discussion.

Photoshop CS3: Photographer’s Handbook is a good book for those who want a overview of Photoshop and want to get into it quickly. It is also great for a primer on what a working workflow can be. It won’t get you into the depths of Photoshop, nor do I believe that it was meant to. If you are feeling overwhelmed with your digital images and you want to get a handle before it becomes out of control then Photoshop CS3: Photographer’s Handbook will provide the tools to put you back in control.

Photo Me Investors call for bosses to go

A group of activist investors has called on Photo-Me International, the struggling photo booth and digital imaging company, to ditch chief executive Serge Crasnianski and chairman Vernon Sankey.

Is this the consequence of the ability for digital camera users to use internet options, such as photo books. This site gives you the option of not stuffing all your pictures in to box on the top shelf somewhere.

Download the free software and see what you can do when printing photo’s from your digital camera.

WAG Travel Advice

The Foreign Office has released a guide for footballers’ wives and girlfriends travelling overseas.

The advice, part of its Know Before You Go safety campaign, has been put together with the help of Charlotte Mears, the fiance of Tottenham Hotspur forward Jermain Defoe.

Among recommendations in the publication are how to deal with breaking a finger nail or ruining hair extensions.

Mears said one of her number one tips was to make sure you look good even without your stylist: “It might sound trivial but you never know when you might break a nail or your extensions turn green in the pool…get a number of good local beauticians or check if the hotel has one before you go.”

Another technique is “to arrive at your destination wearing something the locals would but with a unique twist - think Henna’d hands in India.”

The guide, at www.fco.gov.uk, is aimed at getting safety and travel advice across to young women.
